With the advancement of lithium battery technology, these batteries are being applied across a wide range of industries. Lithium batteries are categorized into two main types—ternary lithium and lithium iron phosphate—but what are the differences between them?

I. Ternary Lithium Batteries
1.High density, small volume, low space footprint.
2.Low safety; prone to catching fire when exposed to high temperatures or impact.
3.Long service life, capable of 800–1,200 discharge cycles.
4.Good low-temperature performance; suitable for cold regions.
5.Suitable for cold regions and industries requiring long battery life.
II. Lithium Iron Phosphate(LiFePO₄)
1.Lithium iron phosphate batteries possess a highly stable chemical structure and are resistant to thermal runaway; the risk of fire or explosion is very low, even when subjected to high temperatures or external impacts. Consequently, they are better suited for applications requiring high safety standards, such as buses and logistics vehicles.
2.It has a long cycle life, capable of more than 2000 cycles.
3.Its material costs are lower than those of ternary lithium batteries because it does not contain expensive rare metals such as nickel and cobalt.
4.Low energy density, large volume, and relatively space-consuming.
5.Low-temperature performance is mediocre, with a significant drop in performance under low-temperature conditions.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and ternary lithium batteries each have their own advantages and disadvantages; LFP batteries offer greater advantages if you prioritize safety, cost-effectiveness, and longevity, whereas ternary lithium batteries perform better if you require a longer driving range and good low-temperature performance.
